Yup! I think it's hard to know when to take mental shortcuts if I'm drawing from memory, and when to stop and look up refs. I feel like if I'm stopping to find refs for every detail and unique angle of that detail it'll derail any kind of flow I'm having.

Is a possible solution to just treat these as gesture drawing exercises and skip adding any detail such as hair or faces?

>The face and hair are very off putting and needs work. The lines are way too thick and reads like a man with cheap makeup on and a mop wig

100%. Line stuff is hard as heck. I just switched to using a hard round WITHOUT pressure for line width when doing studies to get less horrible results. The resources, like Steve Hustons videos/book that I'm currently looking at don't have much info in terms of digital brushes and good defaults. Got any resource for this that you can link?

Will use a bigger canvas next time and not over complicate the composition from the get go.

I polished the turd for a few more minutes, but will now drop it.
