Maybe you are not exaggerating the right parts if it makes your drawing look wonky.

Remember, gesture is not about copying, rather capturing.
You exaggerate where it helps to get the idea of the pose across. Find the essence of the pose, the action you want to communicate, and then push those parts that add to it and leave out what distracts from it.
It is a means of clarification.

No, like >>2637350 your shit will look stuff as fuck. Gesture is essential if you're want to draw people. Everything is based off the gesture. It captures the flow and rhythm of the subject.
