I have been doing only portrait studies so far and those aren't really worth anything, since anyone can do a good study given enough time. Anyway you asked so I'll give something at least. Everything that isn't a straight copy turns out to be garbage unfortunately.

As to what I want to be, well, a character designer, I like drawing portraits too. Maybe something like illustrations or even comics if I could get good enough.

That is not great either but I don't have much to show.

I'd rather not, because I post my work on social media (it helps me to cope with my issues) and I delete a lot of my stuff that was meant to be a study for example. Pic rel is one of my recent studies that I kept

I am a slightly better beginner so yeah, I agree with you. I also think that me spending a lot of time on analyzing what do I have to do in order to get values or colors right helps with achieving better results. I have a mindset which can be described like this: every new piece has to be somewhat better than the last one. And I have to feel like it's better, I have to see it too. So I work on it till it's better.

It's easier now because I am quite new to drawing but it will get harder for sure. I have to find a good way to make myself disciplined

Look people, I know that the internet gives a lot of information for free and it's a very valuable thing when it comes to learning anything - I agree with that. I just made this thread because I've been feeling very angry, or rather frustrated with myself that I don't know what to do. I still think that having a mentor or someone to help you is very valuable but I guess I can agree that it's not necessary. Maybe I am just retarded, anyway good luck to those who try their hardest on their own.

pic rel is one of my latest studies
