Holy fuck, this post is essentially something that took me 8 years to learn the hard way.

Another thing I might add to this is that dealing with aesthetic sensibilities and appealing stuff like that is an entirely different journey than tech skill. There definitely will be overlap, but it's not something that should be taken for granted as an automatic process.
From what I know It requires a lot of unlearning and re-contextualizing old information as well as being able to improvise and make decisions.

Because fundamentals are rooted in firm logic, they will never really allow you to understand how to make things like pic related. You might be able to copy it perfectly, or imitate it to an extent, but to get a distinct result from a blank page is an entirely different feat imo.
So many decisions are being made constantly about how to interpret the reference material and subject matter. It's a lot more difficult than "values, anatomy, colors, perspective, proportion, etc."
