Unironicly this painting by Ruan Jia, I get why people shit on him because most of his work looks soulless, but this is in my top 5 fav paintings.

One simple question: What makes it horrible?

I don't think anyone's going to be butthurt as long as you have an actual point and aren't just flinging shit around to be a contrarian edgelord.

Feng Zhu said that you should study as much as possible but in the end is he right? Human brain can focus 100% on anything for 2, maybe 3 hours max, after that it all diminishes to the point you are struggling with understanding even simple stuff.

So what's the appeal of studying 16 hours? You won't take much from it, what's the deal?

I hear he is making an artbook. Is this true? I remember seeing a post on FB where he uploaded some giant smashing a tower and the description was something simple along the lines of "For book".

As someone who plays traditional flutes, the pose is hilariously fake. She might as well stick the flute up her ass and play it by pure magic. He's not the only good artist to make that mistake, I'll give him that.

And I 100% honestly don't remember not a single name of a photorealist.
Never seen a photorealist's work in a museum or heard of it being sold for lots of money.
I never heard of any photorealists being hired by a large corporation for creative work.

Why?
Simply because a photorealist is still worse than a camera.
Today the job of an Artist is to create something more beautiful than we can see in real life, and make it even more beatifully than it would be even if it existed.
And what does? It's just autistic overpaintin of an already existing photograph of already existing things.
They have a WOW! factor impressing normalfags and people who never heard about art by doing what camera does and that's it for them.

And finally what is result of your work?
What have you made?
Artist makes an impressive new image of something no one never seen before.
Photorealist creates an inferior copy of an already existing photo.
