Okay here you go, you could make the composition focus on the character. You did well to have him dress in brighter white and a saturated red color while the rest pf the image is highly de-saturated that is already a good step. I showed on 1) that by adding contrast around him and under him using the sunshine from the morning sun.

I made few quick changes to demonstrate the mood change. On 2) We can turn the painting to have more negative message and mood, while on 3) we can make it a more positive mood with just simple changes.
