I figured out why I failed with getting the perspective the way I wanted to with the jet.

I drew the jet as if you are looking directly up at it but used that image and aligned it with the vanishing point as if it were two dimensional. That is not the case.

I didn't actually align the jet with the vanishing point, just my idea of how the jet should already look.
I did intend to have it mid-maneuver, but I'm currently displaying an aircraft along along XZ with zero Y axis depth. Pic realted.

I fooled myself by having the centerline of the improperly drawn aircraft be perpendicular to the Y axis. It aligned with the guideline.
