What is it with redditors and trying to find "hacks" for shit they don't even understand in the first place? Plus, lol @ the audacity to be giving "tips" when the figure he presents is just sort of floating diagonally instead of actually demonstrating any sort of weight or balance. Irshad is the same way.

>top artists and instructors are asked for advice or the secret to their skill
>"just imagine what you're drawing in a box then rotate it"

This is the equivalent of a rich hot guy saying "just be yourself bro" is the secret to his success with women. Thinking in boxes and 3D is one of the first things you'll have to learn to draw successfully, but actually being able to do successfully apply that principle to everything in your head is either going to take an crazy strong innate visualization talent or an inhuman amount of practice. Talent is absolutely real and play a giant role in if you're going to make it and more importantly when, and denying it is absolutely ridiculous.

If you don't already have "it", you'll be spending thousands of hours at each skill level grinding pointlessly just to force your brain to internalize these truths, while those who already innately understand them are free to practice meaningfully for the purpose of incorporating them into their drawing mindset. You'll forever take at least twice as long to do this and will always be playing catch-up.

I'm in the process of learning foreshortening methods and one technique from Scott Robertson is to use orthographic grids. Drawing a diagram from a side view and front view and/or top/bottom view will help guide as a visual aid for your 3D construction. Pic related is a study be Krenz Cushart, you can download some of his tutorials on his gumroad.

tl;dr its a method invented by Krenz Cusart called "angle cotnrol. It's kinda hard to explain, but definitely a superior version of drawabox. Kinda think of it like, a flat cube "like what a 3 year old would draw" Would be like a 0 degree angle and if we move our "head or "camera" up than we have a 0 degree angle with 25 elevation

Also you can find his videos somewhere in the mega, i've seen it before but don't have it on me

his lines are wobbly as fuck

he deliberatly makes his lines wobbly

I do the krenz method but am beyond confused on how to measure what I draw on a side and front orthograph

How do you know the dragon is 1:2 or something, measure with a ruler or just draw a box over it and divide in halves and thirds like Scott Robertson does on that one page?

The greentext link is a torrent sorry, you can download it straight to your phone with the utorrent app

This is all I can upload for tonight but expect a mega tomorrow with more. If you get all this and want to scavenge more just really check pinterest. A lot of stuff I didn't know existed of his is there scattered from people uploading. Pretty neat

Remember that you still need to practice lighting, and colour. For that, I recommend "How to render" also by scott robertson

How come no one ever told me the answer was to use this to be able to draw literally anything in a wide array of angles and views

I've never used reference photos and then traced over them to design my characters.
I used to be the worst shit but now thanks to several figure drawing books and mileage I'm creating better figures.

On the other hand, I have a friend who traces for everything, drawing rooms, characters, hands..
He had a decent level when he started school, but now he hasn't improved at all in 3 years of art school and he clearly has no understanding of 3D space and construction.

<--- Look at this picture, this is how I believe you should learn to construct anything, first understand its 3D properties and bear them in mind all the time while you draw. It's worth it in the long run OP.
