I mean, you don't need to add a lot of crazy shit to make something fit into a steampunk theme, so long as it fits the era. If you feel the need to, you could always do some cyborg shit, like a brass monocle built into his face with multiple lenses or something. Lots of flourishes in the metal work to make it look fancy and expensive.
