well this is something i made today.

What you're describing is saying "Master Chief is a recognizable guy, let's use master chief".

That's not necessarily what I'm saying.

I'm saying use what is available now as reference, stop producing new characters, and use instead what is already in our history.

what I made is not "Hey, fog of war is something, people recognize it, I'm going to use it", it's "This is something that already exists, what is something clever using a known quantity".

I think the culture of trying to create new things in the way of "This robot future soldier is a BRAND NEW robot future soldier that is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the ones that already exist" is going to go away. And instead people will be using what's available.

If that is boring to you that's fine, I'm not necessarily saying that that is any better than the pursuit of complete originality, but I think that pursuit is becoming more and more fruitless, and people are getting tired of being sold the same thing that's being paraded around like it's new.
