“Halt, human!” she bellows, “if you wish to pass then you must pay the toll, or suffer the penalty of your death!”

“God’s no, please no” - it’s the one day you’ve forgotten your coin-purse. You begin to open your mouth, perhaps to plead for some slither of mercy, but you silence that thought in an instant. The oni women that roam this land accosting travellers weren’t known for their clemency, and were well renowned for their absolute brutality. Instead you go to raise a leg at some chance of escape, but instead find yourself rooted to the spot. Frozen in terror, you raise your hands to cover your head and wince in anticipation. Head lowered in submission, you stand trembling, waiting for the impending blows to come raining down upon you… only to be met by silence. None arrive.

You raise your head tentatively and peak out from beneath a shielded arm.

“Well, human? I haven’t got all day y’know”.

Ignore the watermark, I'm not trying to promote here, just not taking any chances after my first submission was spread everywhere with credit removed.

Whoa that's still pretty damn good shading. I would argue that with a few touchups that it's fine as it is. I always adored the contrast between simplified anime style lines combined with detailed shading. I would love to see this finished.
