The india inks are really good textured brushes (for default MS brushes) if you haven't tried them already, you should. That's what I use most of the time.

I think if you put a little more pink on her skin (between the shadows and highlights) it'll look more skin-like.

With anything, try to add a few colors when shading. It makes the picture look a lot more interesting and life-like. I would have put some blue or purple on the tentacle monster, too. It's all experimental, try and see what looks best.
