Not at all. When you're painting something with a lot of texture, like grass, hair / fur, bark, etc. You basically have to disregard the texture and just paint the overall form. Then you can add texture afterward. There will pretty much always be more texture along the boundaries of where forms turn or light shifts. Pic related.
