>How do you design hundreds of characters

Ok

?while keeping them unique and consistent arstyle/theme wise without ever having them come off as "generic"?

Why, to any of that? Not everyone has to be "equally unique", nor do you have to stick to a consistent style or even theme. Is real life like that? No! Moebius, referenced above, just drew whatever he felt like it seemed, his charcters in hius sci-fi works were almost transhuman or posthuman, so he got away with being able to mold character's physiologies to state their personality better. That's another thing, if you are designing a character, you display their personality or "what their character is" through their design. Pretty simple, and it works out like this in real life too in some ways (clothes are the most prominent example).

It also depends on your setting and the context of the story you are telling. For example, I'm doing a scifantasy setting for an rpg 5000 years in the future, I'm not saying my character design is that great, but I tend to have a lot of freedom design-wise, pic related. Something like a story set in boot camp at a contemporary army barracks, or even a rave, the character designs would probably be more self similar, at least clothes and "personality" wise.

Also, don't forget, generic characters need love too. For example, I can't think of a more generic charcter than "the hero/leader clad in red", from the Red Ranger to Kaneda from Akira, I see this trope everywhere, and yet it seems to always work, mostly because being clad in red brings all of the attention to that character (color psychology), but I digress...

Hey thanks man, that actually boosts my confidence.

Tbh, that game guide is WAYYY out of date,
I'm currently in the middle of a total redesign, both of the in-game universe and the mechanics. If you ever play the game as it's presented though, shoot me a line on insta or tumblr, and tell me what you think. My tumblr is the same name.

Here's something else I've done for my rpg

> You can keep the blocky style, but you need to mind where you place your curved lines, it will help with the gesture. Maybe the problem lies in your inking process. Have you tried doing lose underlying sketches? Could be worth trying out.

Thanks, I'll try to consider more curves, or where I put them more carefully. I do do underlying, loose sketchwork, then draw in more confident lines over that.

>If you just want to be visually interesting instead of being illustrative, I'd suggest to make the forms even more abstract and really push the style. At the moment it's too unpolished to be either really interesting, nor appealing.

Hmm. What are the strong and weak points of this drawing, would you say?

>I do, however, think you have something going with that style, regardless what others may think about it. So keep going, but try to figure out what you want to convey with your drawings.

Thanks, preciate it. But maybe youre right, because usually when I draw I just make up a pose piece by piece, I usually don;t think of the pose I want to draw before I start drawing. Maybe that will help me.

>It feels like you just want to be original for the sake of it.

While I do value novelty for novelty's sake, I think making good art is more than that.

Here is another piece of mine for reference, less stylized, this is more like my "realism" style, less angular. yes, it;'s crowded, it;s meant to be, its at a far flung future "utopian crosswalk".

Concept art/character design practice for my sci fantasy ttrpg set in the 71st century galaxy. This is called "Waiting at a Utopian Crosswalk". I'm trying to draw more like Moebius, after a few years of just basically absentmindedly doodling I'm trying to get better. ANything I can work on? I know the poses are stiff but I was just experimenting with design, and I know it;s also crowded but that's the point. I might color it.

Concept art for my sci fantasy ttrpg I'm making, set in the 71st century. Trying to draw more like moebius and less simply, I pretty much just abstractedly doodled for a few years and am just getting back into drawing. Anything I can improve on?
