Unrelated anon, I think why we draw "westernized" anime is because we know how our facial structure looks like and it's stuck in our subconsciousness. Therefore it requires more observation than from an average Japanese person to achieve the same effect. We know how an European eye looks and if we want to draw an eye, that's what we think of. When I was studying various styles I've noticed the height of the eyelashes peaks slightly towards outside instead of the center like "our" eyes and that's what mostly says that drawn girls are Asian and nor Caucasian.

Though I think the only crucial part of drawing the eye is showing the eyelid partly going over the tear duct, because the "peaking" isn't always there depending on the style.

I don't intend this as an excuse for having trouble drawing ""real"" anime which doesn't resemble western animation and I hope this all doesn't come off as cringy as if sounds in my head. It's something I've noticed trying to figure out why my drawings always looked a bit off, and maybe helps someone else too.
