Every plane lines up with the vanishing point. That's the entire rule. You're "challenged" because you're not doing anything, you're just making random lines.

I mean, the simple question is; Are you actually making any effort to try and measure or keep your lines consistent? Or are you just moving you pretending to look at the reference and then just doing whatever after? You're allowed to actually spend time observing the relationships between details of your reference, where things start and end, how close or far they are away, etc. You're allowed to take actual measurements. You're allowed to look as many times as you need before making a mark. You're allowed to use a grid to help measure things. So if you have many tools available, why use none of them?
