I think you're making solid progress. You're definitely working through fundamentals like perspective and construction - and I think so long as you keep up a dedicated study routine you'll improve faster. As for tablets, brand doesn't really matter, same goes for whether you have one with a screen or not. My first tablet was a Wacom Bamboo Fun and it served its purpose just fine.

I know the size is not so good but is the rest comparable with newer Bamboos or the Intuos? Should I upgrade?
