drawing first, simple and loose rough sketch, tighter overlay drawing, then flat color, flat simple shading, more shading, highlights, color overlays, work some parts until acceptable. All of these are on separate layers so I can play with blend modes and opacity.
That's pretty much it. I would add that drawing gestural, loose and structural is the more important part.
