I'd recommend getting medium if your budget allows it. I had a small one for a few years and while it was fine at first, after a while i noticed how i miss being able to do big dynamic strokes like i can do on paper. Also, there's a higher chance of wrist pain (in a long term) when you always draw with it instead of using shoulder.
Now i got a Companion 2 which is a bit bigger than a Medium and it feel amaaaaazing.

Same, i kinda lost all my friends irl except for the d&d group. But first of all, who's stopping us from joining streams now? I think there's even a secret LAS Discord going around.
And second of all, i tend to think of socializing with cool people as a part of making it (when you start working at the studio, you'll instantly have a lot of interesting people to hang out with). I think Lava mentioned something similar in his blog.
