For this the answer is always "it depends" you have to be able to judge if the detail in question is needed or not, that is where skill enters the picture.

What do you want to show? Are you going for minim details or maximum details? Do you use thicker and thinner lines? Do you use crosshatching? The main thing is that the picture need to be uniform and "looks good", I know this sounds retarded but can't explain it any other way, this is where your skill matters.
