I find it helpful to go over the reference, work a construction and overlay it over my painting to see where I fucked it up.

You can see your head is a bit off, take more time measuring your distances, you can see the mouth is the worst part. Work on a good and accurate construction and THEN start painting.

If the underlaying construction is bad, the painting will be bad.
