Francis Bacon was obsessed with Velazquez' portrait of the pope. he collected reprints of it and went to see it many times. Whether you get your inspiration from Velazquez, cave paintings or Goya, doesn't matter.

some artists' works are being rediscovered for certain qualities. Goya is an evergreen in that respect. Rene Magritte is also becoming "more and more modern".
my personal choice in that respect is Yves Tanguy
