Anywhere to download the book so I dont have to buy it for $100? Has anyone actually worked through this either?

You need to Put Charles Bargue's drawing course at the very beginning. Your ability to accurately see 2 dimensional relationships is going to bottleneck you from drawing in perspective, for the simple reason that your proportions of those boxes and the relative angles of converging parallel lines will all be fucked up. The more clearly you can see those, the easier perspective will be.

Courses: Should I go from Basics to Advanced to Classical?

Why do most people here have those boring anime or super giga mecha futuristic digital art as their goal? I find that shit so disappointing and derivative and not at all inspiring. I find classical art like pic related much more appealing. Although I guess most of you guys want a "career" in art and digital is what's most in demand these days

>making a copy is not a REAL study

I didn't know this was a popular or common belief. But I agree with you and doing a "master copy" where you try to copy something as closely as possible is a form of training that dates back to the renaissance and artists like Michelangelo did it. It became very popular in the 19th century among neoclassical artists and it's still taught today in traditional ateliers.

I started putting more time and effort into my Bargue drawings and I think I am using terrible paper that isn't suitable for long, careful efforts.

What is good paper for graphite Bargue drawings? What do they use at ateliers?

For those of you who have experience with Bargue, how was it? Is it good? Or does it leave you as some copy-machine like Proko?

different guy here, pls name them in order of importance, or at least the top 3 works you'd recommend.

Also, niggas in this thread saying you gotta have 8 hrs a day every day are deluded. Just get a consecutive 4 hours a day twice a week or 8 hours a day once a week and work your way through the bargue course in the sight-size method. If you're patient and do it right (ie exact copying) you WILL develop facility. Some may develop it a little bit better than others, but you will GIT at least halfway to GUD

>inb4 sightsize is flawed and teaches you to draw under only very specific conditions

No you assholes, it's merely a method for beginners to develop the ability to measure by eye. After you make it through a few plates you'll be way better at the comparative method, which you can pretty much employ wherever. Accurate measurement is a muscle you can train.

Hell, frankly, you should learn sight-size before you go for construction, because it will allow you to more accurately reproduce the illustrations with correct proportion that bridgman and whoever else you study have created for you to learn from.

patience, 8 hours a week, some charcoal and a trip to fedex to print up a plate in 11x17 is all you need. Anyone who says otherwise is busy petulantly trying to get you to join their pity-party and should be roundly ignored in all regards.

Alot of people say that unless you spend like two weeks on each bargue plate then its pointless, but then wouldnt it have taken like 3 years for van gogh to do each one twice? and didnt his brother help publish it? i feel like he knew how to do the exercises properly.
