Yes but instead of thinking of a floating objet you need to think of it as if it still were conected to te ground, except the lower part is invisible.

The red and green lines are the ones used in the video, but for floating objets you need more lines, I added them in blue so you can easily see them. The green shadow is the one that should be casted if the object was conected to te ground, and the blue one is the shadow that a floating objet should cast. Finally I circled in light blue the points to which you have to conect the new blue lines.
