Ctrl+U and Ctrl+B are your friends in greyscale coloring. also soft round with the settings posted in the picture set to overlay and you need to be on the same layer of your greyscale.

okay so usually when doing this stuff i draw it out in greyscale.
if you have the object lasso'd into it's own layer or what ever, hit ctrl+B to bring up the cololor balance and tweak it to your liking. in the case a reddish orange.

next thing you want to do is set your brush mode to overlay. set the opacity low and grab a soft round brush cause you'll be airbrushing over the object. use a larger brush for a smoother gradient.

arm on left is with the two color below it and same with the arm on the right.
additionally once you get one you like you can brin gup ctrl+U and get some variations and use the same airbrushing effect above to get them to your liking.
