In the US they're called Di-bond and similar brands. Really cheap.

They're not necessarily blended, just painted in close value changes. I don't blend as I say, pic related is one I'm working on, on linen done with fast drying oils (Griffin). I will go back over the face to correct anatomy & everything, but this was the first pass. Usually on top of this is where you get the smoother look.
This is a really small head, about 2 inches high, to give you an idea of what the linen looks like compared to a cheaper substrate.
