What exactly is it about Kim Jung Gi's art that makes it so much more appealing than other artist's? I look at his work and compare it to say, Michael Hampton, and even KJG's figures are more likeable.

This is a general trend I find, Korean/Japanese artists are a lot more aesthetically pleasing than their western counterparts with few exceptions. Am I just a pleb?! What am I not getting?
