Your workload and deadlines determine what you have to do, not in the reverse.

Nobody ever decides their own work conditions before they even have a job, despite how dumb that sounds that is what you're doing with these artificial limitations.

If you have to trace do it, of you don't then just don't. What's the fucking problem.

I don't know if it's useful for practice. But for a professional artist it seems a quick way to get rough sketches. Here a mangaka Yoshikazu Hamada uses it for posing and imported the 3D models into Manga studio and adjusted details.
