Do the feet on this look proportional now?

Yeah it’s way better than before. Hand on right still looks rough imo but good job, anon.

I’d never spend an hour on laying in a pose until I’ve graduated from begdom and really wanted to do an accurate atelier style pose drawing. I would just do 5 to 10 minute gestures. Don’t try to “fix them” and just keep going on to the next pose instead. You want mileage.

LoveLifeDrawing and David Finch and Vilppu and Hampton and Karl Gnass have good info on gesture drawing. You don’t need to go through all of their instructions, just find one teacher whose ramblings actually click with you and stick with them. Don’t worry about making gestures look good, just try to get the information necessary to understand what the torso is doing, the angles of the main masses of the torso, head, and pelvis, the direction of the libs and what they’re doing in space. Just to communicate what the body is doing. Good 3d form is needed. (Boxes, tubes, balls, etc.)

The rest is just gradually studying anatomy and getting mileage. I’ve probably done over a thousand gestures and I’ve got no plans to stop.

Obviously, the first step — step zero, really — is learning to see. So if you haven’t done Betty Edwards’s book (or Proko or Eviston or keys to drawing etc.) then trying to draw figures is basically just gonna be a frustrating waste of time because you’ll be stuck spinning your wheels drawing what your brain is tricking you into thinking you see, rather than drawing what you actually see.
