For a moment I was transported into the barely sentient mind of a monkey artist as his trainer tried to bribe him with bananas to continue working on a painting he already finished. Even a monkey feels that sense of pride and accomplishment, that painting isn't just paint haphazardly slathered on a canvas. It's an expression of himself, and if he were to paint over it he'd be trampling over his own expression. When he is old he will still look fondly on that painting, it's a reminder of himself. Even though he's just a monkey, he is still proud to be alive and who he is.
