we artist are actually very grounded in the world we live, which is why we can appreciate beauty in meaningless stuff

>something that transports you to another realm and metamorphoses
is, as you said, a romantic idea of artists created by non-artists because of how ''unsocial'' we tend to be, when in reality we just want to be left alone with our craft and not be interrupted

the abstract artists are helping this romantic idea grow, and they are usually looked down over here because their end game is different than ours but share the same title with us, which in the end creates false ideas about us. You might be more interested in abstract art, in which case you didn't find the right place to be discuss in.

>I like the IDEA of looking at art or of being an art lover better than the actual art I'm seeing, [...] I don't feel I appreciate the art IN ITSELF, the way that I, at moments, can with poetry or music. It doesn't send a shiver down my spine, even though I can say I like it. But if this is simply an innate fault of mine which learning can't fix, I understand.
I like you can put into words what you feel and think and I can say you definality can be taught to love art, since I too was attracted into it by an simple idea, which, in time, I turned it in a way of living. You need to ask yourself why you want to get into visual art (you are looking for art which can ''transports you to another realm and metamorphoses'', right? In my case it was the desire to be able to show others what I have in my mind) and then search for artists which do that thing though their art.

think of art as of writing and reading, when you were still learning to read you couldn't see no enjoyment in reading, but maybe the idea of being able to read was attracting you (or you just did it because you were forced to XD)
