What do you mean by a manual?
>but he doesnt tell you how to actually pick the blue tones in relation to the warm tones, and its not like you can just slap electric blue on the shadow areas.
The first page on direct sunlight (pg.28, pic related) tells you how the blue sky changes color depending on the weather and how the blue affects the local color of the object in shadow.

>In the figure at right, the blue sky color gives the top of the shoulder a greenish quality in the shadow. Where the sleeve drops from the shoulder, the yellow shirt picks up warm colors from the ground, and appears moire orange.
This is telling you that the shadows are the sky color + local color mixed together.
