Quick check:
Everybody good using dad.gallery now? Please let me know if not. Try restarting your browser if need be.

Seriously? No more. I think the FBI joke is kind of overplayed. Pathetic, almost. Especially when you do the same thing every time a poll gets made. Really kind of sick of it at this point.

Right now, I need to go to bed. Of course, I'll be checking in on the poll tomorrow evening to announce the winner. Or maybe, to be fair to the people who are weekly, let it sit a week. Figured that would be overkill, though.

Historically, though, polls lose a lot of traction after the first hour, so I probably won't do that. Eh, whatever, I gotta go to bed now. Legitimately super sleepy right now. Please keep drawing DAD, and have a good night!

so apparently, dad.gallery is not a great domain name
really conflicts with the
> NOT A GALLERY
rule, and people keep bringing this up all the time

so, by the time the next thread comes up
i'm going to hold a poll for the new domain name ending, like dad.kiwi or dad.studio or dad.africa
or who knows
however, some of these are pretty expensive (dad.africa is $219 a year????) so that might become a factor

maybe we want doartdaily.design
or we want adinefansite.enterprises
who knows

regardless, i might open a poll next thread.

Sentry integration has been added to DAD

> what is that? what the fuck is that?

Nothing functionally. Just getting my shit together DevOps-wise.
Basically, whenever you see the website cry 'Something went wrong REEEEEE', I get the specific error and the line of code that caused it, so I can more accurately and precisely hunt down issues.

also lets try to keep this thread less shit
the amount of vague accusations, shitflinging, creeping, terrifyingly psychotic... whiteknighting?, and typical name dropping to a minimum my god
i know you guys want me dead but at least do it by putting a bullet in my head not by giving me terminal cancer

Site renovations (the intent of this patch) is taking quite a while due to how annoyingly time consuming it is to both design, test and work with an entirely new site layout, so I will continue to work through today on it. Tomorrow, I'll start DAIB and progress will be slower.

Rest assured, I'm still working on it.

Seriously, why do you need DAD for your language habits?
There are a LOT of discord, forum and even imageboard communities where you can get a lot more immersed in learning your language. You're going to get jack shit from DAD outside of an extremely rudimentary streak tracking system and the ire of pretty much everyone.

Join a community focused on language learning. Actually speak and practice it out loud. Improve your retention. For gods' sake man, why the hell do you want to do this here?

A minor change has been made.

Based on the results of the poll, comment character requirements have been reduced from 140 to 100.
Explicit site policy and general guidelines with regard to acceptable comments has been added.

Small stuff. I gotta go do drive out to a laundromat now, the dryer at my apartment's fucking busted.

A tribunal is not logistically difficult to implement, and should take two to four weeks for rudimentary delivery, it's that I have philosophical reservations against the concept.

If you're not submitting 30 minutes a day, the only thing you're doing is cheating yourself. LAS has always been a way to help form and maintain stable art practice habits, while mutually motivating and aiding others in the journey. At the end of the day, it is a tool. A tool is usually only useful for its intended purpose.

Cheating the submission time requirement is ultimately only harming yourself. You can check items off a digital to-do list. You can go to Habitica and pretend you practiced thirty minutes on your oboe. You can copy and paste a pre-written code solution into a tutorial and think you've learned the basics of a language. But at the end of the day, someone's own failure is not your responsibility to police, and has no bearing on your own trajectory. I'd even argue it's a waste of time to dwell on these things, or dig through peoples' history to see if they duplicated a submission.

If enough people are insistent on a tribunal, I will increase the priority of its implementation. However, I will reiterate that ultimately, who cares if some schmuck submits garbage (beyond obtrusive spam or illegal material)? Your journey is your own.

Hi, DAD. Happy father's day.

Meditating on deleting the 1000 pages challenge, but I'd like some feedback on that.

The challenge lasts 30 days. Assuming 8 hours of free time (and that's being generous as hell), that's a little more than 33 pages a day, and 4 pages an hour, which amounts to 15 minutes a page if you want to complete it.

I don't like the idea of challenges that encourage excess quantity over learning and creativity. Moreover, it's utterly directionless outside of "draw a lot", which is redundant to the ethos of "draw every day" besides ramping up the 30 minute requirement. The badge even doesn't make sense, it's a prestige 3 for submitting to the challenge on each day.

Bottom line: I don't think people will gain much from it. Yes, increasing the volume of work that you do is important, but this challenges is probably going to cause people to develop more bad habits than good.

Anyone else have an opinion on this? I'll be reading your responses later.

I'm not going to be policing this stuff right now, but let me say that official discussion on this topic will be tabled, not killed, while I get my ass in gear and pump out dev for the site. We'll return to this topic later.

In the meantime, it is extremely important to recognize that prestige level 4 and 5 is meant to represent really going above and beyond (and surprisingly, the mecha challenge satisfies this, more than half the participants couldn't complete it or gave up). Expected effort from prestige 1 to 5 is almost exponential in scale. Bear this in mind when calling out people, or assessing whether you personally deserve it or not. Did you follow the prompt to the best of your ability? Did you use all of the time allocated effectively and make the absolute best polished product you could've, within reason, dictated by time commitments and skill level? If no, then we might have some problems.

I never liked the idea of the tribunal (outside of EXTREMELY blatant cheating and low effort), since if you didn't make an authentic effort, you're only hurting yourself. However, I am strongly considering implementing one for high-tier badge earnings because Prestige 4 and 5 are supposed to be on a whole other level of their own.

This is a bug that results in a "soft penalty", where you've submitted for the following day, but you're not eliminated from DAD.
The end result is that you'll lose a point in your streak (today's submissions won't count).

I am working on fixing this bug. Until this bug is fixed, I'm letting this slide. Otherwise, you would certainly be eliminated. Moreover, people who are a bit overzealous and post at 00:01:00 may likewise not get the points they deserve due to posting before the rollover script finishes. Once the bug is fixed, I'll do a quick search to correct anyone's streak if inaccurate due to this feature (seasonal challenge not affected).

You are not the first to run into this.

Sorry guys.

I tried to put the site on maintenance mode but accidentally did it for 4chan instead.

Patch coming soon. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow.

Jerry, you have no submission on April 24th.
You have one on April 25th timestamped at 17:48, and another on April 23rd timestamped at 17:53, so it's unlikely to be a rollover or 23:30 bug.
