I intend to add some color, but is this level of line roughness passable or should I be cleaner to get more social media fame shekels?

It's true your older drawings aren't as strong, but that's a good thing - not all artists show a visible progress over a short period of time.

If I were you, I'd stick to developing this rendering style - low contrast, keeping the palette soft and close together and alternating between areas of more and less rendering for an extra layer of appeal. A cheap trick you can use is to put a saturated layer over the top, set it to overlay and play with the opacity, it brings all the colors together.
