I've been doing some research, and apparently portraits of celebrities is a big nono.
Most accepted portfolios contain color, and aren't done in pencil. As you say they want to see you using a variety of mediums but what alternatives are there to basic pencil stuff? I don't have a tablet.
I have a couple of creative ideas. Admittedly, I am lacking in fundamentals like composition and color, but that's not the point. The point is that I'm going to have to pass no matter what the circumstances are. So I will purchase some paint. I heard a quote, "it takes 10000 hours to learn to draw, but 1 hour to learn to paint." Hopefully this is true.
