Use whichever one makes sense for the specific pose and model. It varies from drawing to drawing. I always try to “think” the box even when I don’t literally draw it, because torsos have a front, back, and sides just like a box does. You can do an egg to place the mass of the ribcage and then draw a box on top to place it in perspective and better define it.

I’ll try harder not to. I’ll have to do more thinking and probably slow down and be more deliberate. Which, I guess, is maybe the point.
