A lot of things in art aren't entirely academic, meaning you'll have to figure it out yourself to some degree which means making mistakes.
It's like a basketball coach telling you how to throw a ball to score, he can do that till your ears bleed but at the end you still have to feel it out yourself.
So again were back at learning to embrace failure, but I'm not a psychologist I can't help you with that, so good luck anon.
