My Captain,

Here is a sample of my work so far. More will follow.

I have been a little fuzzy on what you meant by organic, I took it to mean curved and complex surfaces, if this is incorrect, please correct me. I redrew the three items I attempted originally, an egg, a bird and a small computer mouse.

The crossed lines and method for quartering the circles is quite helpful. I have been attempting to extrapolate from this method a manner for drawing curves that are not derived from a perfect circle. So far I have figured out the following method which I ask you to either confirm or correct.

I mark off the end points of the curve first. Then I either draw or imagine a straight line passing between these two points. Next I mark the zenith of the curve, the point where it deviates the most from the line. Finally I attempt to draw a curve that passes through all three points in a smooth manner.

This seems to be working relatively well, though I still have issues with my line quality (see pic, all that chicken scratch, ugh). I have questions though.

Is there a specific method I should follow to start? I generally try to box out the space the object takes up, then I draw the "footprint" of the object. Then I try to imagine the same "footprint" on each side of the box and go from there. This method works but is obviously quite imprecise.

The egg specifically gave me serious issues, I am still confused by it. Eventually what I did was draw two points for the top and bottom ends. Then I drew cross cuts on portions of the box it would take up to determine center points. Then I drew a circle that connected all those center points. Next I drew curves that passed through the end points and those marks on the sides of the box to end up with the egg shape. It looks OK but still doesn't seem right in my mind.

Lastly I realize I have failed to state this explicitly,
Thank you for your continued lessons.

Jayne
