You know, I don't mind the anime style at all, some of my favorite artists are manga artists, and I understand what you all are saying about stylization and simplification (>>3468862 >>3468887 >>3470693 >>3470715 are great posts, thanks anons) but at the same time I just can't get behind the art in OP. Maybe I'm just an outlier, but I honestly prefer faces that have personality and individuality over perfect, glossy symbol faces that have maximized broad appeal and aesthetics to the point where you can't tell characters apart unless it's by hairstyle. It's just boring.
I know that I'm pretty trash, but picrelated is how I strive to do faces. I try to make characters as distinct as possible from facial features alone, and I try to make their bodies distinct as well, though I really need a lot more study and practice before that becomes a reality.
I think that there is something to be said for letting characters be 'ugly' or not perfectly aesthetically pleasing. Using All Might as an example, Kouhei Horikoshi got some pushback from editors about him because they thought that he wouldn't be appealing enough, but people loved All Might because he was both visually interesting and distinct, as well as being a likeable character. Horikoshi has a lot of individuality in his cast in general, very expressive too. Hiromu Arakawa is much the same way, especially her male characters.

I know that the OP picture is mediocre porn, but I feel it would be more appealing with facial features that aren't stickers or as one anon charmingly put it, "a flat dorito chip face".
