IDK man, I just kinda draw an overall peanut shape and adjust the shape, height and width for the character and then just treat the face kinda like a doll, imagining not only the cross center line, but also the cheek and forehead lines to help place the planes better.
tldr; Loomis but with shapez, fitting in the sphere after the fact and not at the beginning
