What happened to this board? Ten years ago anime used to be shunned, ridiculed, and laughed out of /ic/ not everyone and their dog wants to draw anime. Whatever happened to drawing dragons and space marines, what of concept art and the like? The general consensus was to strive to be the next Tehmeh instead it seems like everyone wants to be a clone from their favorite fap artist.

the more you know what something is supposed to look like, the harder it is to fool yourself that it looks right. You might draw a snail that looks nothing like any real snail and still think it looks like a snail because you don't have any deeper feeling about how it's supposed to look. You know what people look like, and on top of that you know what this statue in particular looks like. This makes it much harder to tell yourself that your drawing is close to it.

Gesture drawing is a means of communication to promote an idea behind your interpretation of a figure and to broadcast an expression, an experience, and a feelpu (mood) towards your audience.

It is an abstract, it may be formless or convey some form but the whole purpose is to get the message across clearly to tell a story.
