Can anyone tell me if I'm getting somewhere with either of those versions?
It's really getting to me, but I don't think I want to scrape it completely.

Very attractive, but do you really need that many lines? People often underestimate how much it slows them down.

A burden lots of us have to bear... Try not to spend too much time on one drawing or you'll "render the life out of it". Get down the major ideas quickly and only slow down to render when all the important design choices are taken care of.
