I think a lot of people don't actually care all that much about the topic at all. They care a lot about having something to fight about tho. In my speariance a lot of the time it's pretty clear that the person entered the thread looking for a reason to talk shit. And then once they take a side they become married to it for the thread, or at least until they get flustered, stop posting for a day, and come back samefagging as someone new with a different thing to argue about.

Like you can kind of tell when you're talking to someone that's just there for the cockfight. If they want to shitpost they'll find a weigh. Doesn't matter what you seigh or how you engage with them, their goal is disingenuous. Anything you say will be treated like the most lecherous thing a person could ever say.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. My issue is that when you say "debate," what you generally mean is 2 people making anonymous personal attacks at each other and bitching about nonsense entirely unrelated to the subject of the thread. If you dare try and have an argument AND post your work or any means to identify who is talking, you can essentially guarantee that the other person is going to make everything about who you are and entirely ignore what you're saying. And then because of that everyone just posts with no pic related out of fear of being identified, making threads boring walls of narcissistic text between angry virgins projecting their angst at strangers.

But yeah you do speak the tru tru. Nobody is ever willing to just "yes and" with anyone else's memes or anything. There are so few people that are willing to be encouraging or positive or empathetic with their "critique" that you start to assume that any overly-nice response to someone's drawing is probably just them samefagging.
