All that really matters is the underlying drawing, imo. That's the true measure of how good an artist someone is; like Ingres said, 'drawing is the probity of art.' Ruan Jia's rendering technique is holyfuckballs awesome... but his underlying drawing is often fairly mediocre. Pic related. Jaime is a better draftsman by a significant degree.

Ironically, there are plenty of artists out there who draw much, much better than Ruan Jia Jaime or Mullins. But /ic/ is mostly impressed by shiny rendering, which is a trait that's typical of, uh, people who are still pretty new. I don't think that these three are really the holy trinity of the modern art world, compared to some of the other talent that's out there.

Does /ic/ have a blind spot when it comes to its heroes? If someone posted this in a drawthread, they'd get get torn to pieces over the anatomy. Just look at that arm.

Why is /ic/ so hypocritical?
