The funny thing is that it wasn’t until like year 5 of art magnet school that we actually did a half-semester on grids and tracing and projection.

If you think you can regularly draw a proportionally accurate image from a reference and have learned all the fundamentals and understand why they’re important, the next step in the process is basically learning that professional fine art isn’t about jerking off about how well you can hand draw, it’s about executing a final image.

Granted I’m talking about underdrawings for paintings that immediately get covered up anyway. If you’re trying to just make a drawing and you’re tracing it seems weird. Plus grid transfer is just as easy as tracing and it’s more enjoyable/
