All my life I was doing observational drawing and I can't do shit from imagination.

What should I do to learn it fast

I don't know what to draw in order to improve. I look at a reference thread and it's either something terrible or something I've done before and it would not add much to my skills. But when I do find an image, I work on it a lot of hours, I never do quick studies (it means I can move on). Where do I find references that actually help in getting better? What should I draw in order to improve (generally speaking)?

What's so good about Craig Mullins? Every time someone mentions him, they talk about how good and cool he is. What's the deal?

He finally found the smudge tool and already pushed the boundary of what is possible with it. I mean, Bumskee, Tom Scholes, Jaime etc have made really good use of it before, but this is just mindblowing.
