Unironically just draw more to refine your painting routine.
Always remember the main rule of art: from general to specific. So you won't waste your time on overdetailing something you would paint over anyway.
Plan everything as you sketch.
Do some exercise paintings focused around some certain fundamental or technique: edges, values, general shapes, warms vs cools,
