Not really. I can sustain myself solely through art. And I do it without ever drawing porn, like a lot of artists on here tend to.

I got three routine clients that pay me monthly, two for comics, and one to design characters for him. Plus, I also get the occasional commissions from time to time for paintings and such, from people who just come across my stuff on my facebook or insta or tumblr, and just really like it. For example, pic related is something I did for a private client for $1000.

And I've done fuck all in terms of proper marketing or branding online. If you start putting your stuff out there, if people like it, you'll get commissions for stuff. The market is much much bigger than you think. Especially with private clients who just think, "oh, I'd like to hire an artist to make me a painting of X, to hang on my wall." There's a fuckton of those.

If you have a scarcity based mindset, especially one in which you believe that you gotta undermine others to sustain yourself, then you're only undervaluing yourself, cause as I see it, it's like a belief that your work simply isn't something valuable enough to retain or attract clients. I know that so long as I keep my clients satisfied, they'll keep coming back to me, and they'll spread good word of mouth to attract more clients. Simple as. If you live in an abundance-based mindset, then you'll have actual abundance in everything you set out to do.

Personally, I like to help people, and see them improve, simply cause, especially as total newbie, I understood just how frustrating it is to try and get any decent feedback when you need it the most.
