I got the Loomis books, and they all very quickly dive into measurements and approximations of ideal measurements you can memorize and then use to construct images without reference.

Now obviously that's useful at some point, but is this something a beginner, learning to draw from life, should focus on too much? I feel like it encourages symbol drawing. Any experiences? Thoughts? Should I go through the books regardless or stick with drawing from life for a while?
