Tarded beginner here.

If I want to learn how to draw my own shit, is there any use in practicing copy drawing? I don't know if that's actually what you call it, but I mean looking at a picture and just trying to draw it. That's what I've been doing lately, but I want to be able to draw creatively. Should I stop what I'm doing and read some books on this shit, or am I benefiting from this somehow?
